My wife and I knew Matthew Christian McAlexander because he was best friends with our younger son, Zach. Matt had been in our home and had eaten at our table. Matt was a volunteer fireman with my son. Matt passed away on July 5th from a boating accident at the age of 19. His younger brother Josh also died from the same accident. Their deaths were a shock and heartbreak to all who knew them. My wife and I attended their funeral on Monday at First Christian in Kernersville. Their pastors paid a great tribute to Matt and his younger brother. I was so grateful that both of these young men knew Christ as their Savior and were active in serving Christ and others in and through their church.

When we were in the procession going to the cemetery, we never saw such respect. Of course most of Kernersville knew of the deaths of these young men. People stood in shopping center lots, on the sidewalks, and in their front yards with their hats in their hands or over their hearts as the funeral procession drove by.

These two Christians, though so young, made a great impact on their communities for the glory of God. My eyes still fill with tears as I think of the outpouring of love these fellows received. It was a tribute to their love for God and others.
